Procedure

The Client will submit a request for commission, the Artist will then email the Client for more information including size, budget, and general aesthetic. In preparation for the project, the Artist will create 3 drafts of possible designs (based on either size or cost, and design discussed via email), the Client will then be able to choose from those drafts, or request another draft or set of drafts based on discussion with the Artist about the first three drafts. Five drafts are allotted free of charge, any additional drafts requested incur a to be added to the retainer.

Once a design is chosen, a commission agreement will be written up by the Artist with details, including fees, retainer, and design, to be approved and signed by the Client. The Artist will begin work on the project once they’ve received the retainer and a copy of the signed commission agreement. Once the project is finished the Artist will request the remainder of their fee and send the finished work to the Client with hanging instructions either printed and included in the package or emailed to the client.

Artist fees

The Artists fees are determined by Artist based on a combination of factors, including: estimated number of days work necessary to complete the project, the size of the work, the cost of materials of which the work is composed, and the complexity of the work.

“Complexity” is defined by factors which change the overall time and effort necessary to produce the fabric. Examples of a few of these factors include:

EPI ends per inch, the number of warp threads per inch width of fabric, determining resolution
Weft gauge the diameter of weft singles and quantity of those singles, determining color noise
Block count the number of distinct sections of a single warp color
Hatching fields a weaving technique required for blending two neighboring weft blocks
Colors the number of distinct colors of weft necessary to complete the project
Shortest dimension determines loom used, and thus the setup procedures

A retainer will be held for projects which total over $200. The retainer will be 50% for all works which cost over $400,for works between $200 and $400 the retainer will be the remainder after $200  (e.g. a project which costs $342 will have a retainer of $142, and the remaining $200 will be due upon completion) plus any additional fees incurred prior to the beginning of the project (e.g. additional drafts). Those fees will be added to the retainer, regardless of the subtotal of the project. The retainer will be kept by the artist in all circumstances barring ones wherein the artist cannot finish or release the work.

Additional drafts after the first 5 incur a $25 fee to be added to the retainer.

If the client wishes to keep any of the drafts, they may request it before the final work is sent. It will be an an additional $20 to the final payment.

Shipping and tax are included in the total cost of the work unless otherwise specified.

Returns

Returns will be accepted if the Artist is contacted within 14 days of the Client receiving the work. The cost of shipping the returned item will be paid by the Client, and the Client will receive back the fees of the work minus the retainer once the Artist has received the returned work. Returns will not be accepted after 14 days of the client receiving the work.
